On April 21st Bloomberg published their long-awaited ranking of the top 500 richest people on the planet. From the leading 10 billionaires, as normal, the USA dominates the scene, followed far behind by India and with just one place for Europeans within the leading top 10. Sadly there are still no ladies in the top 10 of the richest people in the world. Here is the list of the top 10 richest people on the planet according to Bloomberg as of 21 April 2022:

Elon Musk

Everybody has heard of the innovative entrepreneur Elon Musk. He has single-handedly revolutionized not one but several economic sectors – banking, vehicles, that of space exploration, to name but a few.

 Runners up are the internet, tube transport, solar energy generation, and since recently – social media. Elon is currently aged 50 and was born in South Africa. Studied some in Canada. And eventually graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in the USA, where he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Economics.

Today the billionaire lives in Texas, USA. His net worth as of April 2022 is USD 249 billion. Elon made his first million when exiting his first company, the digital PayPal. His sector of expertise is technology.

 His current drivers of wealth are his 17% share in Tesla and ownership of Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX). Today Elon holds the position of CEO of Tesla and CEO of Space Exploration Technologies. His added value to the world from his efforts includes but is not limited to digital-first banks, electric cars, energy storage devices, reusable rockets, and of course, the dream of space exploration and humans becoming an interplanetary species.

Jeff Bezos

Jeff Bezos has revolutionized online shopping and delivery. He was born 58 years ago in Albuquerque, USA. Jeff has graduated the Princeton University in the USA, where he holds a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. 

Today he lives in Washington, USA, and his current wealth amounts to USD 179 billion. Jeff made his first million doing the same thing which he currently does – operating his digital book store Amazon.com.

True, the platform today has vastly expanded its line of offered products. His source of wealth is the 10% share in Amazon, ownership in Blue Origin, and The Washington Post. His sphere of expertise is technology, retail, and logistics.

 It is here that Jeff has brought the most value to the world by optimizing internet retail sales and distribution. His new endeavors and possible future drivers of wealth are commercial and passenger space flights development. Today Jeff holds the position of Executive Chairman at Amazon.

Bernard Arnault

What will the world be without style? “The Pope of Fashion,” as Bernard is known, reinvented French couture. He was born in Roubaix, France, some 74 years ago. He studied atÉcole Polytechnique, Paris, France, where he holds a degree in engineering. Today Bernard lives in Paris, France.

His current net worth is USD 144 billion. He started off by taking charge and managing his father’s construction company Ferret-Savinel. Later he entered the fashion scene and never looked back. 

His drivers of wealth are the family-owned company Groupe Familial Arnault, which holds 97.5% ownership of Christian Dior SE, which in turn holds a 41.3% stake in LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy), also equity in Moelis & Company, equity in Hermès.

Bernard currently holds the position of Chairman and CEO of LVMH – the largest luxury goods company in the world, which holds brands like Louis Vuitton, Christian Lacroix, Givenchy, Kenzo, Sephora, Marc Jacobs, Hennessey, to name but a few.

Bill Gates

Bill Gates is the person whom the world owns; Bill Gatesthank you for the development of the novel operating systems – DOS and Windows. These paved the way for the PC becoming a household mass product. Bill Gates is also renowned for fighting dangerous diseases and being a big philanthropic; Bill was born 66 years ago in Seattle, USA.

 He attended Harvard University but dropped out early on. Today Bill lives in Medina, USA. His net worth is USD 131 billion. His source of wealth is the 1.3% share in Microsoft Corp., Cascade Investment LLC – the Gates’ privately owned investment company, with 46% of its portfolio invested in Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

 Bill is a known philanthropic and is currently holding the position of Chairman of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Warren Buffett

The “Oracle of Omaha” is the living legend of value investment. He is also renowned for his philanthropy, Currently 91, Warren was born in Omaha, Nebraska, USA.

He graduated from the University of Nebraska and Columbia Business School and attended the New York Institute of Finance. Today he still lives in Nebraska. 

Warren’s net worth is USD 126 billion. His wealth driver is 16% ownership at Berkshire Hathaway Inc., where he holds the position of CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.

Gautam Adani

The 59 years old industrialist from India was born in Ahmedabad,

Gujarat, India. Gautam is a college dropout, but this did not stop him from amassing his USD 117 billion.

 He started off by working in the diamond trade. Today his wealth drivers are his 65% ownership of Adani Green Energy, Adani Total Gas, Adani Group, and Adani Power. Gautam holds the position of Chairman of Adani Group.

He was born in East Lansing, Michigan, USA, 48 years ago and attended the University of Michigan, where he holds a degree in Computer Engineering. He also applied for the doctorate at Stanford University, where he met his partner Sergey Brin. 

Today Larry’s net worth is USD 115 billion, and he lives in Palo Alto, USA. His drivers of wealth are Alphabet (the parent company of Google). His new endeavor is Planetary Resources, which plans to mine in space. Currently, he holds the position of Co-founder and Board Member at Alphabet.

Today Mukesh lives in the Antilia Building, Mumbai, India. His net worth is USD 101 billion, and his wealth drivers are Reliance Industries Ltd, which owns the Indian Premier League franchise, the Mumbai Indians, and he is also the founder of the Indian Super League. Mukesh holds the position of Chairman, managing director, and the largest shareholder at Reliance Industries Ltd.

Last on our list is the 66-year-old Steve Ballmer. He is a Stanford University MBA program attendee. Today he lives in Washington, USA. Steve’s net worth is USD 101 billion. He amassed his wealth as CEO of Microsoft and successor of Bill Gates, and he also owns the Los Angeles Clippers and a 4% stake in Microsoft.
