Comedy lovers must have watched at least one movie of the Hangover series which has the basic plot of three friends who overindulge in fun to the point of forgetting all events that took place the night before. What makes it even more fun and entertaining is the fact that when these friends wake up after a long night of fun, they receive the shock of losing their friend- a supposed groom whose wedding is one day away. When you are left behind by your family members during Christmas vacation, you have to ensure you make one of the highest grossing comedy movies ever by terrorizing burglars that make an attempt to break into your house. Kevin, an eight-year-old boy did just that and he managed to chase these evil people who wanted to take advantage of the fact that no one was home around that time. The film required $15 million to produce and over the years it has become one of the highest income comedy movies of all time.

7. Monsters Inc, 2001 ($290 million)

2001 was a great year in the production of comedy movies with high returns. Monsters Inc features the story of monsters that scare children in a bid to generate power for their inhabitants but are these creatures are actually afraid of kids? Sulley, the main character desperately tries to rule and dominate but has the fear of the unknown. With a budget of $115 million, this film earned 2.5 times as much as was used to produce it.

Up is funny and silly in equal measure. It is one of those comedy movies that leaves you wondering how the plot came to the mind of a human being. It features Carl, a 78-year old guy who ties hundreds of balloons to his home and tries to get away from Russel and satisfy his dream of touring South America as well. However, as soon as his home is up in the air, he notices Russel is on board and his heart is utterly broken.

The Shrek animation series comprises of some of the highest grossing comedy movies ever but nothing beats Shrek the third, a 2007 production. Shrek desires to inherit the land when King Harold falls ill so he enlists the help of Puss in Boots, Donkey and Artie to remove the sick king from power in a series of dramatic twists and turns. This is one among the animation comedy movies which brought home almost three times more profits than the production costs.

Despicable Me 2 brought in $365 million in less than a year making it one of the highest grossing comedy movies ever. The anti-villain leagues recruit Gru in an attempt to deal with criminals in their region. Gru opens a door for the presence of minions who never disappoint with regards to laughter.
